Bermuda is a British overseas territory in the North Atlantic Ocean, located off the east coast of the United States. It has a population of 64,000. Association football on the island is governed by the Bermuda Football Association (BFA) and is affiliated to FIFA, CONCACAF and the Caribbean Football Union. The Bermudian Premier Division is the top division of Bermudan Football and was founded in 1963. The league is contested between 10 teams every season. The most successful soccer clubs are Somerset Cricket Club and Pembroke Hamilton Club followed by North Village Community Club. However the top club on the island is Bermuda Hogges, who play in the United States league system. Founded in 2006, the team currently plays in the USL Premier Development League (PDL). This is the fourth tier of the American | Soccer Pyramid, in the Mid Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference. For two seasons in 2007 and 2008 the club participated in the USL Second Division. The second tier in Bermudian football is the Bermuda First Division. There is a promotion and relegation system with the Premier Division. The Bermuda Football Association also run a Development Division and a Masters Division. The Bermudian FA Cup is the top knockout tournament of the Bermudian football. The first winners were Bermuda AA back in 1953/54. |
