Menu Collection

This is a database of menus stored in the Rare Book Room of the Central Library. Images of the actual menus are being added. To limit your search to entries with images, enter an asterisk (*) in the Image Field in addition to your other search terms.

  • Type a keyword in one or more of the search boxes.
  • Use an asterisk (*) to truncate your search term(s).
  • When searching names use "Lastname, Firstname" format.

Date (use 19x* to find that decade, i.e. 194*)

Image (enter an * to search records w/images)

About the Database

A database of menus from Los Angeles, other cities, steamships, airlines and banquets. Images of the actual menus are being added. The address and telephone number of the restaurant is given, plus the menu date, cuisine type, meal, and price range.

Search Tips

Type a word or phrase in the search boxes, following the directions given. The first results screen will list the restaurant name and show a thumbnail image of the menu cover. Click on the restaurant name to see the full record. In the full record, click on “Click for Image” to see all the pages of the menu, one by one.

  • Join the Library Foundation of Los Angeles.  The Library Foundation is a non-profit organization that raises funds for Library enhancement programs such as adult and early literacy, children and teen reading clubs, technology, and cultural programs.  Foundation members receive a variety of benefits with their membership.  For more information, seehttp://www.lfla.org.
