The 19th International Festival of Contemporary Dance ran from 17 July to 2 August 2025, directed by Wayne McGregor. The programme featured daily events with soloists and international companies as well as the activities of the Biennale College Danza dedicated to specific training projects that were included in the Festival’s programme.
Wayne McGregor CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) is a British choreographer and director whose work encompasses a variety of genres including technology, visual art, film, opera and education. His productions are featured in the repertories of companies around the world, including Paris Opéra, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, New York City Ballet, and many others.
Biennale Danza 2025
The new choreographies will premiere on the stage of Biennale Danza 2026. Deadline for applications: 20 October 2025.
The Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement goes to the American choreographer Twyla Tharp. The Brazilian performer, author and director Carolina Bianchi received the Silver Lion.
The 19th International Festival of Contemporary Dance (17 July - 2 August) includes live performances, art and technology, installations, Biennale College, workshops, and conversations. The Festival features 8 world premieres, 7 European premieres, and 5 Italian premieres. Over the course of 17 days, more than 160 artists will be involved in 75 events.
A series of workshops open to the public and aimed at dancers with various levels of experience: from 18 July to 2 August at Sale d’Armi (Arsenale).
A work of public art against climate change, on Tuesday 17 June from 6 pm to 7:30 pm.
The tickets may be purchased online and, during the Festival (from 17 July to 2 August), starting one hour before performance time at the dedicated ticket points.
