Events at State Historic Sites

The Kansas Historical Society administers state historic sites in many different locations around the state. Many host annual events.

Constitution Hall, Lecompton

Fort Hays, Hays

Grinter Place, Kansas City

Hollenberg Pony Express Station, Hanover

Kaw Mission and Last Chance Store Museums on the Santa Fe Trail, Council Grove

Mine Creek Civil War Battlefield, Pleasanton

Pawnee Indian Museum, Republic

Red Rocks, home of the William Allen White family, Emporia

These four sites operate through partnerships.

John Brown Museum, Osawatomie

Shawnee Indian Mission, Fairway

Public transportation in Topeka

Topeka Metro provides transportation for class visits to the Kansas Museum of History.

  • Requires walking and service is limited

Bus grants

School buses

The Kansas Museum of History and Kansas State Capitol have partnered with Freedom's Frontier National Heritage Area, which offers help with 75 percent of funding towards transportation costs. There are 41 counties within the heritage area. More information about the bus grants are available atfreedomsfrontier.org.
