The week around Thanksgiving is recognized annually as National Game and Puzzle Week. National Game and Puzzle Week is celebrated around Thanksgiving to encourage families to spend time together and relax after the holiday celebrations. This is a large, rectangular-shaped, 100-piece puzzle depicting the state of Kansas. The pieces rest in a backing; both are made of heavy cardboard covered in brightly-colored paper. The county seat and area attractions are marked/listed in each county. Color drawings of the state symbols, the state flag and seal, and the Capitol are printed around the perimeter of the map. Two teachers, Barbara Peirce and Sheila Austin, developed the design of this puzzle in Hutchinson, Kansas, in the mid-1980s.

Selected Kansas newspaper titles digitized and available onChronicling America.
