Sugar Works

The works area of any sugar estate was a place of much activity, especially during crop time. The sugar works consisted of the mill (animal, wind or water), as well as the boiling, curing, trash, and still houses. Predominantly, the most expensive and imposing structures on plantations was the factory complex.

Bushy Park Aqueduct - was built between 1760 and 1780.
Cave Valley Chimney - was probably built in or about 1872 as the plaque on the chimney bears that date.
Drax Hall Waterwheel - Drax Hall was 1st established as a sugar estate and remained as such throughout the 1880s.
Hope Aqueduct - The Hope Estate was named after its first owner Major Richard Hope.
Kenilworth Ruins - amongst the most impressive of 18th Century industrial buildings in Jamaica.
Long Lane Aqueduct - was declared a national monument by the JNHT on January 6, 2005.
Papine-Mona Aqueduct - is a fine example of civil engineering in 18th Century Jamaica.
