On 8 February 2026, commemorative ceremonies honoring the legendary commander of the 5th Vilnius Home Army Brigade were held in Warsaw. The event, organized by the Institute of National Remembrance and the Museum of the Cursed Soldiers and Political Prisoners of the Polish People’s Republic, was attended by IPN Deputy President Prof. Karol Polejowski.
The International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust is celebrated on 27 January, on the anniversary of the liberation of the German Auschwitz-Birkenau camp. It was adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2005 to commemorate the Jews murdered during the Second World War. Commemorative events take place all around the world.
13 December marks the anniversary of introduction of Martial Law in Poland. An authoritarian government, led by General Wojciech Jaruzelski and the Military Council of National Salvation (WRON), introduced severe political oppression in an attempt to crush political opposition in 1981.
