Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele exhibit decreased susceptibility to bacterial infection induced mortality but increased susceptibility to mortality induced by fungal infection. Mice either homozygous or heterozygous for a knock-in allele develop an abrupt onset, rapidly fatal acute leukemia.
