Since 2006, theInternational Helmholtz Research School of Biophysics and Soft Matter (IHRS BioSoft) provides excellent research opportunities for Ph.D. projects. The aim of our complementary research training is to offer a curriculum at the interfaces between neuroscience, physics, chemistry, and biology. Our fellows profit from both regional and Helmholtz-wide networking opportunities.

Students benefit not only from lectures, seminars, and lab courses given by experts in the field, but also from courses in transferable skills. In addition, they experience the environment provided by a large, multidisciplinary research center.

Scientific Courses

Our scientific course program is designed to provide students with an interdisciplinary background in neuroscience, physics, chemistry, and biology. We also offer method courses and advanced courses that allow participants to dive deeper into specific topics. Our fellows profit from networking opportunities both regional and Helmholtz-wide.

Research

Besides striving for cross-disciplinary insights, our scientists work at the forefront of their specialisation. Our research ranges from theory and simulation to experiment, from in vivo to synthetic systems, from proteins to organisms, and from basic research to applications. We focus on mechanisms of biological information processing.
