Tex Rudloff, Sound Man on ‘Taxi Driver’ and ‘Halloween,’ Dies at 89
He was an Oscar nominee for 'The Buddy Holly Story.' His son is two-time Academy Award winner Gregg Rudloff, a sound man, too.
TexRudloff, an Oscar-nominated sound man who worked on such1970s classics as MartinScorsese’sTaxi Driver, John Carpenter’sHalloween and Clint Eastwood’sThe OutlawJosey Wales, has died. He was 89.
Rudloff, who received his Oscar nomination for best sound forThe Buddy Holly Story (1978), starring GaryBusey, died Oct. 10, his familyannounced.
Survivors include his son, GreggRudloff, a six-time Academy Award nominee who received best sound Oscars forGlory (1989) andThe Matrix (1999). Like his father, he worked for Eastwood, collaborating with the director on many of his recent films, includingFlags of Our Fathers (2006),J. Edgar (2011) andAmerican Sniper (2014).
TexRudloff’srésumé also includes Sydney Pollack’sThey Shoot Horses, Don’t They? (1969),The Prisoner of Second Avenue (1975),The Warriors (1979), NormanJewison’s… And Justice for All, Buck Henry’sFirst Family (1980), Mel Brooks’History of the World: Part I (1981) andPorky’s Revenge (1985).
Born Walter CecilRudloff on Aug. 8, 1926, in Coleman, Texas, he worked as arecordist in the machine room on the 1955 classical musicalOklahoma! and served as president of the Cinema Audio Society and treasurer of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences.
