A:The primary purpose of the Great Circle Mapper is to display mapsdepicting thegreat circle pathbetween locations and to compute distances along those paths.

The maps can also show the area which is within a specified rangeof a location, or those areas which are withinETOPS range.

Q:What else does it do?
A:The Great Circle Mapper includes an extensive database of airports andother locations. In includes a search engine for searching thisdatabase in various ways and provides detailed information aboutlocations in the database.
Q:What is a great circle path?
A:A great circle path is the shortest path on the surface of a spherebetween two points on that sphere. Technically, the termgeodesic path should be used since Earth is not a true sphere,but thegreat circle terminology is common usage.
