This evening at6:11 pm PDT,a Boeing 737-8 (737 MAX 8)built for China's Xiamen Airlines returned toBoeing Fieldin Seattle after China ordered its airlines to suspend Boeing jet deliveriesin response to the trade war between the United States and China.The aircraft, which first flew on14 May 2021and was part of the737 MAX backlog afterthe type was grounded in 2019,had been at Boeing's Zhoushan Completion Center, a joint venture withCommercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd. (COMAC) where737 MAX aircraft destined for Chineseairline customers are painted and fitted with interiors.

What will happen with this aircraft? It seems unlikely that the Chineseorder will be resurrected (bad Easter joke!)even if the U.S. drops its 145% tariffs on imports from Chinabut there are other 737 buyers who may be interested in a quick delivery,especially if the price is right.
