Portal, Left 4 Dead Developer Kim Swift Joins EA
EA hires the industry veteran to work at Motive Studios as a design director.

20 CommentsElectronic Arts announced today that it has hiredPortalandLeft 4 Dead designer Kim Swift. She will join EA's new team at Motive Studios to work as a design director for an unspecified project.

Swift worked at Valve for more than four years, from 2005-2009. She was the lead designer, environment artist, and project lead for the first Portal. After that, she worked on Left 4 Dead andLeft 4 Dead 2 as an environment artist and level designer.
Swift left Valve to join Airtight Games, which made Quantum Conundrum and Murdered: Soul Suspect beforeclosing in 2014. After Airtight, Swift spentnearly three years at Amazon Game Studios as a senior designer, working on"secret things."
Motive Studios is being headed up by Jade Raymond, who worked on the Assassin's Creed series at Ubisoft before joining EA in summer 2015. The team isworking alongside DICE on Star Wars Battlefront 2 and iscollaborating with Visceral on a mysterious Star Wars game with former Uncharted writer/director Amy Hennig. Looking further out, Motive isdeveloping a "gigantic" action game.
"We've devoted much of the past year at Motive to building a team of amazingly talented people to work on our new IP and Star Wars projects," Raymondsaid in a statement. "I could not be more excited to welcome an all-star like Kim, who shares our enthusiasm for building exceptional games.
"Her first question to me: 'When can I set up the Frostbite engine and start prototyping?' shows a hands-on approach that we value here at Motive. The team is buzzing with new ideas and I can't wait to see what we can bring to life together."
