JAMES VINCENT took a Conference call from Terry Butcher he reckons will change the course of his entire career.

The playmaker, 23, already looks the latest talent to be plucked from English lower league obscurity by the Inverness boss to revel in his chance to shine.

Vincent linked play superbly in their 3-0 win over St Mirren and was named man of the match on his competitive debut.

He struggled to make a real breakthrough in a decade at Stockport County and spent last season at Kidderminster in the Conference National, the English fifth tier.

Vincent said: “I felt coming here was a step up in my career.

“The Conference is a tough league and I was full time with Kidderminster and Stockport. But as soon as I spoke with Terry Butcher I knew I wanted to join Inverness.

“I came up to see him and it was my first time in Scotland. We chatted about his views on the game and my role in the team and I knew I wanted to be here.

“I’m still 23. I was at Stockport from the age of 10 so this is a step in the right direction.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge of bettering last season’s performance in the SPL when we finished fourth.

“We’ve brought in 11 new players but that could work to our advantage as rivals don’t yet know our strengths and weaknesses.

“The pace of the Scottish game is a lot faster than I’m used to but it will make me faster in turn.”

Inverness underlined their superiority against Saints with a convincing second-half display.

Vincent added: “We were ruthless and took our chances well.”
