Label Guide: Clear Light Of Jupiter

Clear Light Of Jupiter was an Australian progressive/electronic underground label, owned by Jeremy Fiebiger and Daniel Janecka and based in Melbourne. Fiebiger was importing European progressive records, primarily German Krautrock, into Australia and selling them in a Melbourne basement store called Goesunder Flea Market since early in the 1970s. This led to the founding ofPipe Records, which became Australia's biggest importer of 'strange' European music: Krautrock, German electronic music, Italian prog, and UK psych.

Encouraged by the success of Pipe, some say "that on certain titles, a far greater amount of copies were sold in Australia than in Europe," Fiebiger and Janecka started their own record label in 1974 to record and publish local Australian bands in the same genre.Steve Braund's solo album "Monster Planet" (as Maxwell von Braund) was released in 1975 and is considered the first ever Australian electronic album. Other Australian artists on Clear Light Of Jupiter included Braund's band Cybotron, Alpha Omega or Raibow Theatre, but the label also released German Krautrock bands like Wallenstein and Agitation Free.

Clear Light Of Jupiter evolved intoCleopatra Records in the late 1970s.
