Formed from the ashes of Cajun Dance Party,Yuck bonded over a shared taste in music. Primarily American, the band discovered that each of them had a sizeable collection of albums from the early 90s.

Releasing a string of singles last year,Yuck were often labelled as being ‘grunge’. Yet their music covers a broad range of influences, ranging from the warped Americana of Bill Callahan to the fuzz of The Jesus And Mary Chain.

Speaking to ClashMusic, Yuck reflected on those grunge references. “It’s weird that there’s a certain label of bands called ‘grunge revival’ when there’s been guitar bands consistently making amazing music. There hasn’t been a stop or start or anything. There’s just been more attention given to it” explained Max Bloom.

Continuing, the band insisted that they were after a style, rather than a particular era. “Me and Daniel found a certain type of guitar rock that was really appealing. It was really melodic and emotional” said Max Bloom.

“When you hear a band that you completely fall in love with, it just kind of changes completely the way you’re thinking. It’s more about the way particular bands have used guitars rather than an actual era.”

Due for release later this year,Yuck’s debut album is a confident opening salvo from the London based outfit. Opening in Southampton on February 17th the tour hits London the next day.

Dates in Edinburgh, York and more follow before the tour comes to a close in Norwich on February 26th.
