Ageorges, ESO, report the discovery on Mar. 4.2UT of a satellite of minor planet (4674) Pauling from J-, H-, andK_s-band imaging with the ESO 8-m Very Large Telescope UT4/YEPUN (+NAOS/CONICA adaptive-optics system) on Cerro Paranal.  On Mar.4.2278, the companion was at separation 0".39 (projected separation250 km) in p.a. 308 deg.  The K_s brightness difference is about2.5 mag, giving an estimated diameter of the satellite of about 2.5km (assumed diameter of the primary being 8 km).SUPERNOVAE 2004ak, 2004al, AND 2004am     Further toIAUC 8288, D. Singer, H. Pugh, and W. Li report theLOSS discovery of three apparent supernovae on unfiltered KAITimages:SN      2004 UT        R.A.  (2000.0)  Decl.   Mag.     Offset2004ak   Feb. 29.24   8 29 47.57  +48 46 22.9  18.4   26".4 W, 26".9 S2004al   Mar.  3.23   9 37 06.66  -22 10 18.9  16.8   7".0 W, 0".9 S2004am   Mar.  5.23   9 55 46.61  +69 40 38.1  17.0   30" W, 7" SAdditional KAIT magnitudes for SN 2004ak in UGC 4436, Jan. 17.31UT, [19.5; Mar. 5.30, 17.6.  Additional KAIT magnitudes for SN2004al in ESO 565-G25, Feb. 8.36, [18.0; Mar. 4.23, 16.6.  SN2004am in M82 (= NGC 3034) is present on numerous earlier KAITimages, as indicated by the following measured magnitudes, but itsits on a bright (H II?) spot (which was subtracted for the derivedmagnitudes), causing the detection software to miss the new object:2003 May 2.17 UT, [19.0; Nov. 21.57, 16.0; Nov. 23.54, 16.1; Dec.28.43, 16.3; 2004 Jan. 2.49, 16.4; Jan. 17.36, 16.4; Jan. 21.40,16.4; Jan. 30.32, 16.4; Feb. 5.32, 16.4.COMET C/2002 T7 (LINEAR)     Visual total-magnitude estimates:  Feb. 8.82 UT, 7.3 (J. Karhula, Virsbo,Sweden, 7x50 binoculars); 28.80, 6.8 (B. H. Granslo, Eina, Norway,0.07-m refractor); Mar. 1.82, 6.7 (Gonzalez).
