‘General Hospital’ Star Nominated for NAACP Image Award

Nazanin Boniadi has quickly carved a niche in the soap world with her role as Leyla Mir onGeneral Hospital.  In less than a year, she has established her own fan following, has positively caught the attention of many critics, and is now one of the nominees of the NAACP Image Awards.

Presented by the American National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the NAACP Image Awards intends to honor outstanding people of color in film, television, music and literature.  One of the categories in this event is “Outstanding Actress in a Daytime Drama Series” in which Boniadi, who was born in Tehran, Iran, and raised in London, England, is one of the contenders.

As Leyla Mir onGeneral Hospital, fans have come to know Boniadi as a student nurse who became attracted to Dr. Patrick Drake (Jason Thompson) since she first laid eyes on him.  Her noteworthy portrayal has enabled her to be part of the current main ensemble and has even landed her a stint on the spin-offGeneral Hospital: Night Shift as her established character.

This year marks the 39th annual award-giving event, which is hosted by Tyra Banks (America’s Next Top Model).  Boniadi will be up against other soap veterans like Christel Khalil, who plays Lily onThe Young and the Restless,Tika Sumpter, who portrays Layla onOne Life to Live, Tracey Ross, who is credited as Eve onPassions, and Brook Kerr, who plays Whitney onPassions.

Unlike the other candidates who have previously been nominated by various award-giving bodies, this is the first for Boniadi, whose other credits includeYesterday & Tomorrow, Gameface, Charlie Wilson’s War, and the most recent,Shades of Ray.

Fans can check out the winners for the 39th annual NAACP Image Awards when FOX airs the awards show on February 14.
