Known locally as ‘The Barr’, this beautiful conservation village nestles amid the Carrick hills in South Ayrshire, beside the converging rivers Stinchar and Gregg. Surrounded by beautiful scenery and away from the beaten track, Barr offers a haven for wildlife and a welcome retreat to those seeking to unwind. Barr benefits from a variety of trails of differing lengths and terrains, perfect for those on family stroll as well as keen walkers who prefer a more challenging hike. As part of the Galloway and Southern Ayrshire UNESCO Biosphere we also have excellent quality dark skies situated in the Galloway Forest Dark Sky Park area.
Barr’s past is peppered with tall tales and colourful characters. Remote and secluded, the Stinchar valley endeared itself to rogues and smugglers for centuries and still offers a warm welcome to today’s visitors seeking a more innocent form of escape.

Barr Community SCIO is a community organisation, in the form of a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation.
Barr Community Association is a charity, made up of volunteers who organise events and maintain various groups.
The Barr Community Fund is funded by SSE community benefit funding from the Hadyard Hill wind farm.

The results are in: 89% voted yes to an energy grant, 80% voted yes for TV licences for the over-75’s and 72% supported membership for the Quay zone. The community council thanks everyone for participating and will act now with this support.
