Sinclair Broadcast shuffles top management in second round of changes

Hunt Valley-based Sinclair Broadcast Group Inc. announced a series of executive promotions Friday, the second round of management changes since longtime CEO David D. Smith said earlier this month he plans to shift from day-to-day operations to focus on ushering in a new broadcast platform.
Smith, CEO, president and chairman for more than two decades, will become executive chairman, with Chief Financial Officer Christopher Ripley stepping in as president and CEO on Jan. 1, the company had announced Nov. 2.
On Friday the company said Chief Operating Officer David Amy, who has served in that role and as executive vice president since 2014, will become vice chairman and oversee human resources, corporate marketing and the networks group.
Steven Pruett will move from co-COO of Sinclair Television Group to executive vice president and chief TV development officer to develop new business models. Steven Marks, who shared the television COO role with Pruett, will take on the COO job for the television group and direct all TV station operations.
The changes are part of a plan to adapt to a changing media landscape and focus on competitive and growth areas, Ripley said in the announcement.
