This November 1946 letter was the first contact betweenAlan Turing and Ross. Later they were both members of the Cambridge-based dining and discussion group known asThe Ratio Club.In this letter, Turing refers toSir Charles Galton Darwin, the director of theNational Physical Laboratory, who was the grandson of the naturalistCharles Robert Darwin, whom Ross admired greatly and had drawn inspiration from. Near the end of the second page, Turing advises Ross to "... do your experiments on theACE, instead of building a special machine.", but Ross went ahead and built theHomeostat.
