I've written about every make of car from Abarth to Zastava, and on topics as diverse asjoint ventures,Jensen-Healeys andJim Clark’s bottom.
Cars I've tested encompass everything from Citroën 2CV-powered three-wheelers totwo-seat Formula 1 cars, and I've written technical articles, drive stories, classic car tests, consumer features, interviews and more. I've also written more than 20 books about cars, motoring and motorsport, and alongside all that I run Coventry University's unique Masters degree course in automotive journalism.
I trained as an automotive engineer then started writing technical articles for car magazines. In 1994 I joinedFast Car as a staff writer and in nine years with the same publisher rose to editor in chief of Classics, before going freelance in 2002.

My work
I writeroad tests and features for car magazines and websites, andcar books for specialist publishers. I shoot a lot of my own pictures and have a lot of experience working with photographers to get the best out of the limited time available on a photo shoot.
