Port Blair, Mar 14: Mrs. Selvi, Councillor, Ward No. 5, from TDP, has been elected as the next Chairperson of Port Blair Municipal Council. A special meeting for election of the Chairperson of PBMC was held today at PBMC and during the elections Mrs. Selvi secured 14 votes out of the total 24 Votes. Mr. Vetrivelu, councillor from Ward No. 19 who was also contesting the elections from Indian National Congress got only 10 votes.
The election was presided over by the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, Ms Veditha Reddy, IAS.
Meanwhile, the Oath of Office of the elected Chairperson for the second year term of Port Blair Municipal Council commencing from 16/03/2023 will be administered by the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman on March 16 at 10.30 AM in the Conference Hall of Port Blair Municipal Council.
The BJP and TDP presently have an alliance in PBMC because of which the Chairperson for the term 2022-2023 was from BJP with TDP’s support.
