- Reviewed in the United States on September 6, 2007Being a fan of classic music as well of a fan of electronic music, this album blew me away, I often play this CD when I want to create a relaxed atmosphere and I know for a fact that 4 friends of mine have bought the CD after listening to it here with me.
Xerxes and Cavalleria rusticana are sublime achievements of production.
Mr. Orbit, "Hello waveforms" is great but you should take time to produce a second CD of pieces in a modern style.
PS: It's the perfect gift for classic music lovers, you can't expect them to have it and they'll love it for sure - Reviewed in the United States on March 20, 2015Awesome recreation of some beautiful classical music in the electronic world
- Reviewed in the United States on April 17, 2015What I expected
- Reviewed in the United States on September 7, 2005With almost no drums or rythm intruments, this CD very quickly gets a bit dull. As ambient background music this might work but I hoped for something more catchy. The remix bonus CD is excellent though, but as this was one of the reasons I bought the album I was rather disappointed to learn the the bonus remix CD has only 2 tracks! :-(
- Reviewed in the United States on January 12, 2015Excellent as described.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 17, 2012This product is pretty much exactly what it sounds like: classical pieces of music performed with more modern instrumentation like synthesizers and the like. Most of the songs capture the same tone, pacing, and sound of the originals, they're just performed differently. If you find that refreshing or interesting, you will like this CD. If you want remixes of the originals or more individual flair, you will be disappointed. I thought the most of the music on the first disc sounded ok. It's nothing I would put in my favorites on my iPod, but it's at least pleasant to listen to. Just don't listen to the bonus disc. It's awful. The bonus disc consists of two remixes of "Adagio for Strings". They both start with really generic (but not terribly unpleasant) techno/electronica fast paced dance music. Then, abruptly and awkwardly, they quickly fade out and bring up "Adagio for Strings". "Adagio for Strings" is one of the most emotionally moving pieces in the history of music, and here they've just randomly thrown it in, almost as an afterthought, to justify the track being called a remix of "Adagio for Strings". What's worse, they awkwardly cut back to the techno after the snippet of music for "Adagio" and the rest of the track, even if it has some minor elements thrown in, is just dance music again. They are some of the most awkward and lazy attempts at remixes I have ever heard. A remix really should give the piece new life or a be a different interpretation. Here they just took the original, threw it in the middle of dance music, and called it a remix. What bull. Anyway... I give this product a 4 for the content of disc one. It's pleasant enough, but nothing that really stands out. My rating does not include disc 2 because that's a bonus disc and it doesn't cost anything extra.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 30, 2004I read all the reviews and was shocked at the amount of bad reviews it had. This is the first review I've ever written; the reason is that it simply needs someone to rave about it, because there are practically no others. I, like some or most of the other reviewers, am familiar with several of the pieces and classically trained in multiple instruments. Instead of being disgusted with his destruction of originally beautiful pieces, I was absolutely fascinated with his rendition of them. I immediately loved this album the first time I heard it, and still do. He produced a modern sound and at the same time preserved the original melodies and emotions of the pieces. I also appreciated his ability to resist the impulse to "remix" these pieces, as so many dance artists would have been tempted to do. Rather, he simply gave them his own interpretation and kept the fairly ambient feel of the original pieces. All of the pieces re-worked here were subdued, gentle pieces to begin with. I am also a fan of much of William Orbit's other work, including the more dance-floor oriented or rock work he has done solo and with countless other artists: Madonna, Depeche Mode, U2, Seal, etc. I can appreciate the remixes on the second disc, though I am generally a fan of more underground electronic music, and these remixes are a bit too mainstream for me. However, my general opinion is that this is an absolutely sublime album. I even consider myself a purist and still like it. If you are a fan of classical music, William Orbit, or ambient music and can stand the thought of creative liberties being taken with time-honored classical (or Romantic, Baroque, or contemporary/modern) pieces, get it. Hopefully you won't be disappointed, but apparently it's fairly difficult to judge who will like this album. Personally, I love it.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 2, 2023This is a hard thumping techno dance version of a theme of Adagio for Strings. The second disc I could not finish listening to without getting a headache
Not the new age I was expecting and a waste of $ for me

4.0 out of 5 starsOrbit: da ascoltare bene prima di giudicare
- Mr. J.
