MainProfile@H-14

MainProfile@H-14, also referred to as MP@H-14, is the lowest MPEG-2 profile capable of encoding high definition video. It's used for HDTV broadcasts from cable and satellite television services, as well as Over the Air (OTA) signals. It's also used for the HDV high definition camcorder format.

MP@H-14 supports progressive video with resolutions up to 1280x720 and framerates up to 60fps. Interlaced video is also supported, with resolutions up to 1440x1080 and framrates up to 30fps. Since 1440x1080 isn't a legal resolution for any HDTV broadcast standard, MP@H-14 is only suitable for 720p HDTV signals.

The maximum bitrate allowed is 60Mbps (60 million bits per second).

Not all MPEG-2 encoders support MP@H-14. In particular, those designed specifically for DVD encoding may not support it.
