‘People have been very excited about the post office and shop opening’

A POST office has reopened in Bayswater almost a year after a former branch closed.

The leader of Westminster City Council Adam Hug cut the ribbon (pictured above) at a grand opening on Friday.

The office is in a new Queensway Express convenience store in Westbourne Grove – a short walk from the original branch – following a renovation by new postmaster Ahamed Nifras.

He said: “People have been very excited about the post office and shop opening. We’ve been busy getting everything looking just right for the opening and when I have gone outside, people immediately approached me for an update as they were so keen for post office services to be restored to their community.

“There are no banks in the area, so Queensway post office is the place for residents and businesses to do their everyday banking on behalf of all the major high street banks.

“I’m experienced at running convenience stores and restaurants.”

The post office at 118-120 Queensway closed in May 2024. The new shop has three counters and a service point alongside the retail counter. It is open Monday to Sunday, 7am-9pm, more than double the opening hours of the previous service, the city council said.

Cllr Hug said he was “thrilled”, and added: “I wish our new postmaster the best of luck with the fantastic store.”

Deepak Valani, Post Office Ltd business support manager, said: “It’s modern, has a great layout, and the store looks really welcoming.”
