I've put togeather a formalCall to arms for all UFies regarding theufies.org domain and my need of hardware donations.

Exciting News!

I have registeredwww.ufies.org and have gotten free hosting for it from the ISP thatIlliad works for. My undying thanks for him getting this for me.

So now there is just a redirector page to here, but since I've had the offer for actual server hosting, I'd really like to have my own linux box there. Thing is, I have no hardware available to me. I believe I have a CPU only, no case, no nothing.

So here is your task loyal ufies... I'm looking for hardware that can be contributed to me, butfor ufies. If you areserious about helping out, and do have hardware to offer I am looking for the following:

Pentium motherboard
RAM (72pin or better, but of course must fit the motherboard), 32meg minimum
Hard Drive(s), 2G minimum
Ethernet Card (10baseT or better, RJ-45 adapter).
Case. Small to mid tower case.

Ihate asking other people for things, but I don't have the finances right now to set up a box myself.

What a day. TheLinux booth at Comdex waspacked (and I do mean packed, and over flowing into the isles)all day. It was great. We even had BCTV come out and film some of us, including yours truely in the background, talking to a convert (or so I'm told I was spotted on TV).

Thanks also toMimick and the other ufies who helped out at the Userfriendly booth, we really appreciate the sacrafice you've all made to help out the UFie cause! Again, if you're local to Vancouver, head on into the Comdex show and say hi at the Linux and Userfriendly booths!

I made some changes to the comments script so that it'll support longer comments. Also comments with the ' (quote) character will now post properly. Thanks for the kind words guys, and the patience as this system matures.

Well, after a little hacking I modified theUFie Talkback to work like the originalslashdot code so that people could comment on theIambe, Intimate and Interactive site. She was getting lots of feedback, but no one ever saw it. It'shere. It's very very very beta though, so please don't be surprised if it doesn't support things like line breaks in comments just yet. It'll improve soon.

The page is supposed to be accessed from the I&I; page, as then you can go and look at the comments for that day. Going straight to the cgi link above will give you an overview of the diff catagories of comments. I don't know if this will stay or go, or if I'll dump my code and go with /. code or something. We'll see how you all like it first. <g>

I'll be offline for the next 3 days or so with the Linux in BC Comdex booth (#327 or so, main floor, towards the back), sodon't forget to drop by and say hi!

Comdex
As Illiad noted on his site, Userfriendly will be at the comdex in Vancouver on mon-wed of this week. Come on by and hang out there with some other ufies. The Userfriendly booth will be with the Buy and Sell Online. I will be working at the Linux booth, on the same floor (bottom floor), so if you want, please wander on by and find out aboutLinux and meet the (according to Illiad) "almightly Arcterex" <g>

Well, I have to admit that sometimes I'll go outside the realm of complete ufieness and post something about something that rocks my world. In this case,Quake3.To quote Steve Gibson (ofsCary's ShugaShack) from hisReasons to Live feature:

There is a UFie team started for thedistributed.net RC5 crackingproject (AKA the Bovine Project). What this is is basically a projectto show that the current "allowed" types of encryption arenot strong enough, and can be cracked by using the idle processingpower of computers all over the world.
