<report>Feels like Ace Attorney Investigations with the whole walking around a small area and investigating though there are some courtroom scenes. Despite the demo’s dire translation is dire the actual translation is fine.
One of the greatest strengths on this VN is its sense of place. Early 1900s China isn’t a setting I’ve seen before but I found it really intriguing and the setting is very prominent in the story and there’s a bunch of little details (complete with in-game encyclopedia) emphasising the setting to the point where I couldn't imagine it being set anywhere else. The story follows detective Shen Chung-ping as he travels China via the (who would've guessed it) Yangtze River in search of clues regarding his older brother's mysterious locked-room death three years ago. I found the setting of the story particularly engaging: the industrializing China of the early 1900s, with its mix of Eastern and Western influences, is a time and place with which I was not very familiar, but whose exploration I greatly enjoyed. And the fact that that era and location was deeply connected to Yangtze River's story only heightened my enjoyment... Read more »
