The English release is a terrible mess with names and honorifics. Usually it'll change the nickname Kanakana to just Kana, but usually not Maomao to Mao.
It drops honorifics, except senpai. But just sometimes. Usually it'll drop or it swap with a name.
And then there's a line in the game saying, "I want to say her name without adding an honorific." Except you know, the game doesn't use honorifics really.
Except when you get into Kaname's route, where senpai and -san become a plot point/gag and then it'll suddenly use those. But ONLY for that and not when anyone else uses them.
This is the second game I read from them. The first one (Making Lovers) didn't got me, I was bored and wanted to drop it. But Sugar Style turned out to be really interesting. Humor, sillines - all clicked with me.
Some people are annoyed by the very beginning and if you are one of them, then I advise you to endure it and continue reading.
One thing this VN does better than Making * Lovers, though – the heroines are all friends who regularly interact with one another - which makes it feel more realistic. Most of the game’s best comedy moments involve the whole cast. Overall, I think the comedy here is better than Making * Lovers, so it almost evens out.
Sugar Style is another cute visual novel done by the people at Smee (Fureraba, Making Lovers are their other English localized games as of writing this review). You can expect more humor that is similar to those two visual novels as well as an overall similar writing style.
Sugar Style features a significantly more robust common route compared to Making Lovers however, as in Making Lovers the heroine routes split off from the common route incredibly quickly, arguably leading to four completely different stories, whereas in Sugar Style the heroine routes are interspersed into the common route.

Heroines: *Label the MC for being a pervert*
MC: *Gives a harmless, normal compliment to a girl*
Heroines: *Call the MC a creep*
MC: *About to ask a girl a favor*
Heroines: *Start thinking that the MC might be about to do something lewd*
MC: *Gets pranked by Erika and shoves panties in his pants*
Heroines: *Condescendingly fault the MC anyway despite the incident being Erkia's fault*
MC: *Breathes*
Heroines: *The MC is a pervert just because*
I know it's how the comedy goes around the story, but I feel like the MC was always the butt of the teasing and the jokes WAY TOO MUCH that I couldn't enjoy the story. Kaname's route was also so bad it didn't feel like a genuine relationship. The comedy carried it and the animation is great at least.
It is very Similar to Making Lovers, The Same Type of Comedy, Characters, Looks, Artstyl and Music.
The Protagonist gets thrown into a All Girls Dormitory where all of our Main Girls live.
Thr Girls overall I say are pretty Good, although some of the Routes are replacable and lack a bit in substance.
Mao Minami's Route for one has actually really good Romance.
It was pretty cute to watch and read.
Hare's route is similar to that, just replaced the Childcare classes from Mao with Sports Classes (Hare is a Sports Freak).
then we have Ichika who wants to be a Cook or Baker in the Future... Read more »
--Structure--
The route structure has been changed up a bit, and there's quite a bit of content. There are a lot more group interactions, and you get to know each character a lot more during common content. There are a lot of common routes and sol before going onto the Heroine route. Other characters don't get thrown to the side and are more present during a route as well.
These, for me, were some pretty good changes structure-wise but also caused some issues of quantity vs. quality, with a portion of the solo scenes feeling more... Read more »
Sugar * Style is a plotless moege (moe game) made by Smee in a similar vein as their prior VN (visual novel),Making * Lovers. You’re better off staying away from this VN, especially if you don't really like plotless moege or moege in general. It isn’t offensively bad by any means, it is just boring and unremarkable; there are better VNs to read using your limited time on Earth.
The premise and a bit about the story:
The premise of Sugar * Style is that the main character, in the course of attending a vocational university, ends up living in a dorm where all the other residents are female. Hijinks and romance ensue (yes, the protag falls headfirst into a woman’s breasts, among... Read more »
Art style is really clean and goodlooking, music was nice but it's forgettable.
I liked the comedy, some of the scenes made me laugh out loud.
Heroines were okay, i didn't particularly liked them, but they were quite generic and somewhat too similar in my eyes.
Common route was quite long, but was easly my fav part of the VN, with jobs you can choose, makes every common route a little bit diffrent.
And the heroine routes were really boring for the most part, felt too similar to each other, atleast H-scenes were quite nice with Searching room minigame.
All around super cute stuff, with really heartwarming post-credits scenes at the end of each route.
4 Heroines and being the MC staying at the same dorm you can basically have your pick. Much like anime visual novels benefit greatly when there are no annoying characters and this is one of them. Everyone in this game is tolerable but the main highlight of course is the main heroines. They are all cute, some more than others but each has its own unique standpoint.
You can basically... Read more »
A light hearted read, that will give you plenty of reasons to smile, a charming soundtrack and an even more charming cast of characters. I’ve read a ton of novels, but for some reason Sugar Style tops most with its sugary sweetness.
Positive:
- Comedy - It's a funny VN whether we are talking about character interactions, or originality behind events. More than just serviceable, Sugar Style can put in a good mood, and that's money well spent, personally... Read more »

common route is... very long and tedious. not to say they're bad by any means. if you look at them individually they're good to great. its just that when you look them as a whole, yes its tedious and repetitive even. that's all this VN is. a really long and repetitive romcom. I've already told to myself there's no way I'm gonna read them a second time, which is also why I'm reading them at small bits at a time.
if I had to choose which is better, I'd say fureraba by a long shot. they still both get a 7 to me.
