I'm aware of a sprite transparency bug in one of the first few scenes when Sorai and Yoshiyasu show up, but past that I wasn't aware of any. That one scene is on my list of things to fix for the next partial, but if it's a global thing, or if there's another scene I missed where that's happening I can look into it.Last modified on 2024-01-06 at 19:04 |

#5 byAcidTiger 2024-01-06 at 20:30 | <report >So I've been looking at it a bit, and here's what I've found out so far: - It happens starting from that scene you're talking about with the classmates, up through about where you said it ends (with Sayo being the invisible/transparent character). So a bit wider area than I originally thought. - It's inconsistent for me on local. I can only get it to repro if I start the chapter from the very beginning and ctrl skip up to that part. If I load a save or advance the text manually via click or enter, it doesn't happen. - The transparency is rarer than them just being missing completely. Not sure what causes that. And it's still happening on my latest builds, for what that's worth, so it doesn't have to do with the way the first partial was packaged, which was my original guess. So my advice for anyone seeing this would be either to: - Drop saves whenever the date changes around that part, then re-load them and advance manually by spamming enter if the sprites are being wonky (instead of ctrl-skipping forward from your last save). - Set text speed back to default 80 if you had it on instant. - Maybe try deleting patch.xp3 (not patch2.xp3) from the install directory if yours came with that. Might be some weird interactions happening there, it seemed to help when I tried it. The 1.01 patch (which is what that is) is some kind of performance thing for low-end machines, which could be causing some issues when multiple speakers are on-screen. I'll keep looking into it though. Once you're past that part hopefully it doesn't happen anymore, I haven't personally seen it happen past that. Definitely a bad experience though, especially if the scale's that big. So I appreciate the call out. |

#7 byAcidTiger 2024-01-06 at 21:50 | <report >Final update I swear, think I found the problem, or at least a band-aid fix for it. The graphics cache size is set to auto by default, and for whatever reason it's getting overloaded (by skipping/moving too fast, probably), and doesn't reset on save/load, which is what's causing the sprites to go transparent or disappear. Dunno why that happens in my version and not in the original, but at any rate, the problem goes away when I manually set the cache size to something reasonably high (2 GB is what I'm using to test). So I'll dial that in and next patch will include that change. And thanks to you for helping me run that down! It's been on my backlog for a while, but you bringing it up was a good opportunity. |
