Are you misremembering what the visual blocks note was about (different segments of the webpage) or were there some alternative web versions of the games available at some point (if so, the dead-but-archived links here aren't for them and the releases should be split, but the archives go all the way to the release dates)? The game area is fixed size (with small changes to height when there are multiple lines of text on the screen - for that it just means some screenshots are going to be slightly taller, but individually meeting the screenshot criteria), so browser window size doesn't affect it and you can get the dimensions of elements and the whole body with browser's inspect tool and basic math (or in case of somebody not knowing how to use the tool, the exemption in the guidelines for missing native resolution would apply IMO and leaving the same arbitrary amount of black border space on all screenshots would be acceptable). The only issue I see is that the only web version of Dreaming I can find (via wayback machine) is missing an in-game change resolution button and defaults to downscaled 1000x images. The underlying engine looks mostly the same, and I can flip a few things to get that unscaled view but I can't tell if there ever was a way for the players to get it (without customizing page style). If there wasn't, then 1:1 assets aren't valid for screenshots. But just to be safe I took a screenshot of both the "default" view and of forced 1:1 assets size. Oh, and the point-and-clicky yellow border offsets images in it by 1 pixel, hence the uneven pixel distribution on the sides in the screenshots where it's not used.Last modified on 2023-09-24 at 04:58 |

#3 bycarri-mihome 2023-09-24 at 06:25 | <report >Now I see the newer (more languages) releases for both VNs have a note about additionally being on newgrounds (didn't get any google search hits for it for some reason). They seem to embed the webpage inside a 1600x1200 frame, the assets and their layout are the same (except save/menu/restore buttons looking different), and while I'd have to do the math for it again to see if it's harder to determine the game area there, the version of Dreaming there was updated to include an asset size switch in the menu, so the 1:1 asset size is canon after all. (@beliar) I'll add the screenshots from #1 later if you have no additional insight on this. late edit: I think I'll also go through and screenshot the other VNs in the series while I have things set up for it. And there's the Ren'Py collection port worth including for comparison, too.Last modified on 2023-09-24 at 14:41 |
#4 bybeliar 2023-09-24 at 15:40 | <report >Well, that's one way to do it. However, all the internal assets for these games (except for some animations) are in 1250x625, however when you take the screens from your browser you'll get whatever resolution you can, based on your screen size and your browser setup unless you engage in some math. And I feel like at the point you start doing math to take the screens you are already tampering with them for little gain. That said, if you want to spend your time on this, feel free to do it. |
