Capitalization

#1 bybeliar 2023-08-07 at 21:49 | <report >Hi, recently you have been adding a lot of older visual novels, but your capitalization and hyphenation of the titles is seriously lacking. VNDB upholds a certain standard on how the transliterations of the titles are written. If a dev provides a certain capitalization for their title, we usually follow it, but otehrwise the titles should all default to the English language rules that state that every word that is not a particle should start with a capital letter. For example,Biyoshin no kizamu Kiyoki, Kizamu for some reason is written with a lowercase letter. ForYozo tantei sakura chan you both scorned the capital letters, and missed the hyphen before chan. ForMystic magician of fate you skipped the hyphen separators around the subtitle, as can be seen on the official sitelink. I expect you to go through the entries you have already added and fix their syntax before adding any more entries. |

#4 byanonymous 2023-08-09 at 02:25 | <report >been fixing his edits as well lately and welp, he's still doing it and I'm pretty sure I wont be monitering and fixing them myself anymore like I did to a certain someone's edits :) |
#5 bybeliar 2023-08-09 at 06:39 | <report >Whelp, you have fixed a few of your previous edits, and have proceeded to ignore the syntax in your newer edits anyway. That's both lazy and mighty disrespectful. Maybe a ban will help you on a path to self-reflection. Maybe I'll eventually unban you, maybe I'll not. Or maybe from now on I'll ignore you just like you ignore our guidelines and advice... |

#7 bybeliar 2023-08-09 at 07:26 | <report >Not every rule is included in the faq due to the lack of time and effort. There is a reason whyt8242 has 60 pages. However, over the years vndb has come into certain unwritten rules that are closely observed. One of those is to transliterate the languages that have no capital letters with English capitalization and syntax rules for titles. You have been here since 2017 - you should have already known this. And even if you did't, I did explain this in my first post, which should have been enough. |
#8 byparkjinhon 2023-08-09 at 07:28 | <report >I'm not asking about the rules I broke I'm asking which page I wrote wrong and need to fix. Well, it seems that editing is blocked, so even if I know the page, I can't edit it anymore.Last modified on 2023-08-09 at 07:38 |
#9 bybeliar 2023-08-09 at 07:53 | <report >Literally, check the last 2 pages of your edits. Don't you see anything wrong? If you edit so fast you don't even bother with capitals, I dread to think what other mistakes you might make. |
#10 byparkjinhon 2023-08-09 at 08:15 | <report >Yes, I've been looking for several. But with the exception of Otogi renwa, mostly wrote k in lower case. It is often difficult to distinguish the uppercase and lowercase letters of k. Other than that, I checked the official site and wrote it in lowercase. nocturne lief8smile, kirakira, akesome graffiti Everything is listed on the official website SourirE should originally be written as sourirE, but it was written incorrectly in capital letters. In the case of chokkan!, I referred to the Surugaya website, but looked at the official website , it was written in capital letters. Looks like Surugaya was spelled incorrectly. If you look at products with English titles in Surugaya, you can see that they are many case written in lowercase even though they are originally capitalized, such as chokkan. ( example :link) In fact, it is a problem that non-English speakers usually do not pay attention to the distinction between uppercase and lowercase letters. Speaking of edit speed I've checked at least hundreds of doujin games that aren't on vndb, maybe a thousand or more, on erogamescape and Japanese review blogs. Even if edit dozens every day, it will take more than a few months. So I had to hurryLast modified on 2023-08-09 at 08:41 |
#11 bybeliar 2023-08-09 at 10:08 | <report >This is not a speed contest. I don't care if you accomplish your goal in a few months or in 10 years. What I care about, is that you don't make subpar edita someone else will have to go after you and fix. And if you cannot tell the difference between a lowercase and a capital k, you must be really overworked and need a vacation. So, I have given you one. I'll unban you this weekend, so spend the remaining free time doing hookers and blow, and don't worry about the games. They will still be there when you come back. |
#12 byanonymous 2023-08-09 at 14:57 | <report >other than capitalization, you need to write the transcription correctly as well. if you don't know how to read Japanese, use google translate and copy its romaji, then change ō into the correct form, usually "ou", sometimes "oo". you can use online dictionary and converter such aslink too. |
#13 byparkjinhon 2023-08-09 at 15:43 | <report >thanks for the good site recommendation |
#14 bybeliar 2023-08-12 at 20:28 | <report >Your ban has been lifted. Please, engage in editing responsibly, don't rush and try to get the proper romanization and capitalization, so other people wouldn't have to go after you and fix your mistakes. You don't need to add so many titles at once that you make mistakes and mess up frequently. I'll be watching you and hope you do better. |
#15 byparkjinhon 2023-08-12 at 20:42 | <report >don't worry I thought about my plan while I was blocked, and I thought that the plan to add hundreds of games alone that were not on vndb was too reckless and meaningless, so I decided to give up. Sometimes I'll just add a missing link, replace a link with an archive, or just add a few missing games.Last modified on 2023-08-12 at 20:46 |
