#3 bycarri-mihome 2023-07-30 at 14:39 | <report >Were you logged in / had an account at the time? Requiring an account for seeing updated/published dates in more information on game pages has been around for several years at least. I think itch stopped showing published dates in more information for account-less visitors around 2018, and the updated dates earlier than that. Though that's an approximation from archive.org digs as I had no reason to check logged out behavior then and I remember even less from the earlier itch.io days, and chances are some of the crawls that I based it on were done with registered accounts so it might've been even earlier. I'm also not quite fully certain on all upload dates as I think I've seen one pop up in a recent crawl without a publication date to it, so there may be a condition where they are visible for guests. From other differences for account owners, I don't know how old or new is seeing download buttons with upload dates directly on jam pages (otherwise it's "play on game's page" button). Might be a recent change. Registered users seeing upload dates next to fully freeware downloads that lack dedicated download pages on the other hand, on game pages at least, is something out of place, possibly recent, as it's rather memorable having to waste time approximating such release dates from more information dates (that in rare cases may not match the release date) and update blog posts (that show upload dates for everyone if new files are attached to them). At the same time, it doesn't appear to be something site-wide as I just double-checked a few 100% freeware downloads from my edit history and they still lack upload dates next to download buttons, and it can't be something only applying to post factum uploads as if it's visible now you would also be able to see it then. If the ypload date only shows for jam entries (for verification what was submitted before the deadline?) it would explain some freewares not getting any, but says nothing on whether it was visible last year... |

Good to know about all that dumb stuff so thanks. |
