The Boot

Following the ascent of his song "I Was Jake (You Were Diane)" to No. 1 on the country charts,Jake Owen is releasing his next new single. "Down to the Honkytonk" will have listeners ready to raise a glass to the simple pleasures in life.

Led by a driving drum beat made for clapping and stomping along, "Down to the Honkytonk" finds Owen explaining that even if you're not rich and famous, there's still plenty to love about life. After all, as Owen sings in the traditional-leaning tune, "Life's whatcha make it."

"I might not end up in the Hall of Fame / With a star on the sidewalk with my name / Or a statue in my hometown when I'm gone / Nobody gonna name their babies after me," Owen sings in the chorus of "Down to the Honkytonk." "I might not go down in history / But I'll go down to the honky-tonk."

Readers can press play above to watch Owen perform "Down to the Honkytonk" live in concert. Even though he only officially released the song on Tuesday (Aug. 7), Owen's performed it a few times at concerts in 2018. The song will officially go for adds at country radio on Aug. 20; it was written by Rodney Clawson, Luke Laird and Shane McAnally.

After leaving RCA Records, his label home since his debut in 2006, Owen signed with Big Loud Records in late 2017. He's been in the studio with producer Joey Moi working on new music; "Down to the Honkytonk" is his second single with the label, following "I Was Jack (You Were Diane)."

Owen's been spending his summer on the road for hisLife's Whatcha Make It Tour. On Monday (Aug. 6), he announced an additional run of fall dates. Chris Janson and Jordan Davis are his special guests for the summer, whileDavid Lee Murphy and Morgan Wallen will join Owen on the road this fall.
