A Z-6 jetpack
The Z-6 was a model ofjetpack was manufactured byMitrinomon Transports. The jetpack operated by drawing in a mixture ofoxygen andfuel through theintake system and into miniaturizedturbines. The mixture was then ignited and released in three-second bursts which generated thrust to propel the wearer horizontally or vertically. Course adjustments in flight were achieved through the application of directionalexhaust nozzles, and agyro-stabilizer was used to provide counterthrust during landing.[1]
The Z-6 jetpack weighed about thirtykilograms and cost three hundredcredits to purchase. The pack could carry enoughfuel for twenty bursts,[1] and was controlled through a wrist-mounted control panel or through verbal commands that could routed through ahelmet's onboardcomputer.[2] The Z-6 could lift the wearer and an additional weight of up to a hundred kilograms into the air, and each burst could propel the wearer a hundredmeters horizontally or seventy meters vertically. The jetpack produced a cloud of exhaust during operation, which could be used to mask the movements of the wearer.[1]
Amissile launcher could be fitted to the Z-6 jetpack.[2] The top of the jet pack had a turbo-projected magnetic grappling hook with 20-meter lanyard (replaceable with 100 meters). A winch inside the launcher lifted up to 100 kilograms. The grappling hook unit was replaceable with an anti-vehicle homing missile.
History[]
Both Jango and Boba were thwarted by their jetpacks after sustaining damage in battle: whilefightingObi-Wan Kenobi onKamino, Jango crashed after grappling Obi-Wan with a cable when Obi-Wan anchored the tether to a structure on the landing platform. Jango's jetpack detached itself and flew out of control, exploding against a column. His other jetpack also failed him after being damaged by areek during thearenabattle onGeonosis while combating theJediMasterMace Windu, leaving him without escape before his execution by the Jedi's lightsaber.
Around 1 ABY, theDeath Watch bunker was found on the forest moon ofEndor. Inside, variousspacers who could get past thesuper battle droids and Death Watch soldiers could gain access to materials that would allow them to build the jetpack, as well asMandalorian armor.
Years later, while battlingLuke Skywalker over theGreat Pit of Carkoon, Boba Fett's jetpack was activated byHan Solo, launching him into the side ofJabba'ssail barge and into thesarlacc, but it was the only thing that helped him escape soon after.
