Awelding torch, orblowtorch,^[1] was a device used in the repair ofstarships. When in use they gave off a crackling sound.^[2] The formerJediPadawanCal Kestis used welding torches at high altitude to break ships apart while working as arigger in hiding on theplanetBracca during theGreat Jedi Purge.^[3] AtEcho Base, theRebel Alliance's secret base on theice planetHoth,First SergeantHazram Namir and thespecial forcessoldierKryndal used welding torches to heat uppower converters which had suffered internal icing.^[4] One type was called aplasma welder.^[5]
