Characteristics[]

The TIE/wi interceptor was astarfighter which was brought up to the exact specification ofSupreme LeaderKylo Ren of theFirst Order. As such, it had increased speed, range, and more firepower than a standard model. It was manufactured bySienar-Jaemus Fleet Systems and like otherstarships of theTIE fighter series, had atwin ion engine capable of reachingsublight speeds of 140MGLT,^[3] and its wings weresolar collectors, which were similar in appearance to Ren's previous ship, theTIE/vn space superiority fighter. It had fourlaser cannons at the tip of each wing, five heavy cannons between the two main solar collectors on each wing, and a heavy weapons turret with mag-pulses and heavy lasers. In addition, it had a roundcockpit that featuredred designs and an antenna at the rear. The TIE whisper was also equipped withsensor-confusing technology,^[1] such as itsenhanced jamming suite,^[5] that allowed for a degree of stealth.^[1] The vessel was also equipped with a Class 1hyperdrive.^[3]

History[]

The TIE whisper entered service during thewar between the First Order and theResistance, with amodified one piloted by Ren, replacing hisTIE/vn space superiority fighter.^[6] TheFirst Order TIE Fighter Pilot "Wrath" flew a TIE whisper in battle against Resistance forces, includingT-70 X-wing starfighters.^[7] Pilot "Nightfall," a veteran of^[8] the elite^[9] 709th Legion, flew a TIE whisper and used the craft to chase after aRZ-2 A-wing interceptor over a rocky area.^[8] The pilot "Whirlwind" flew a whisper in battle againstBTA-NR2 Y-wing starfighters.^[10] One TIE/wi was once involved in a battle against enemyX-wing starfighters andAlderaanian crusiers alongside a formation of other TIE ships. In the battle, the TIE whisper, all while firing twomissiles, utilized its enhanced hamming suit and flew past an explosion that rippled across one of the enemycruisers.^[5]

Ren used his TIE whisper to travel toExegol where he confrontedDarth Sidious, who revealed theSith Eternal's fleet ofXyston-class Star Destroyers, theFinal Order, and ordered him to killRey and end the Jedi. Ren later used his TIE to confront theJedi Rey on thedesertworldPasaana, during which she jumped over his ship and sliced off one of its wings, causing it to crash. Ren flew another TIE of the same model toKef Bir, where he again confronted Rey in a lightsaber duel. Defeating and wounding him, Rey took the TIE and flew it toAhch-To, where she burned it, pledging that she would follow the path ofJedi MasterLuke Skywalker and exile herself to the island. However, Skywalker'sForce spirit confronted her and convinced her to continue the fight. Rey then took the wayfinder from the wreckage and departed the planet in Luke'soldX-wing starfighter.^[6]

Behind the scenes[]

The TIE whisper appears inStar Wars: Episode IXThe Rise of Skywalker and was first seen during the official teaser for the film.^[11] It was first identified inUltimate Star Wars, New Edition.^[1] The reference bookStar Wars Origami 2: 34 More Projects from a Galaxy Far, Far Away.... mistakenly identified the TIE whisper as an Imperial Era starfighter.^[12]
