As anImperial I-class Star Destroyer,[1] theSteadfast measured 1,600meters long.[2]
History[]

Enric Pryde, longest serving crewmember of theSteadfast
Commissioned by6 BBY,[3] theSteadfast was in service to theImperial Navy during theImperial Era. Following an advanced placement at theAlsakan Academy and[1] within fiveyears of[8] receiving both training and education for the role of anImperial officer,Enric Pryde was posted to thevessel[1] in 6BBY.[3]CommodoreFreylon[6] was serving ascommander of theStar Destroyer and waskilled during theBattle of Ponolapo[5] by0 BBY. That year,[3] CommodoreScaanos replaced Freylon, in addition becoming Pryde's superiorofficer.[5]
At some point between3 ABY and4 ABY,[9] Pryde, by then[7] alieutenant commander[10] was temporarily assigned to the Star DestroyerImpervious on an inspection duty toZee-Nine City Seven[7] inHutt Space.[11] By 4 ABY,[3] Pryde was serving aboard theSteadfast once more. He operated as the ship'scaptain during theBattle of Endor[5] of 4 ABY[3] against theRebel Alliance. In the battle, he was ordered by Scaanos to leave theship and join the fight against the rebels on theForest Moon of Endor's surface while theImperials battled theAlliance's fleet above. The battle ended with an Imperial defeat.[5]
Pryde later commanded the ship during theBattle of Jakku[1] of5 ABY,[4] where the Galactic Empire fought against theNew Republic,[12] thesuccessor to the Rebel Alliance.[13] During the battle, theSteadfast was shot down[1] and destroyed,[8] upon which Pryde abandoned the Star Destroyer and then fled into theUnknown Regions;[1] the Empire itself capitulated after losing the battle.[12] Pryde later helped in the founding of theFirst Order, the Empire's successor, and rose within itsranks. Eventually, he was issued command of aResurgent-class Star Destroyer[1] in28 ABY[14] by the First Order'sSupreme Leader,Snoke, who also named thecommand shipSteadfast in honor of Pryde's old Star Destroyer.[1]
Commanders and crew[]
Enric Pryde was posted to theSteadfast in 6 BBY,[3] spending his entire Imperial career there[1] and becoming the ship's longest-serving crewmember by the Battle of Endor[5] in 4 ABY.[3] He later commanded the ship in the Battle of Jakku[1] in 5 ABY.[4] Commodore Freylon served as the ship's commander until his death at the Battle of Ponolapo[5] by 0 BBY,[3] leading to him being replaced by Commodore Scaanos[5] that year,[3] who also became Pryde's superior in the process. A number of Imperial officers were also posted to the ship by the Battle of Endor.[5]
Behind the scenes[]

TheSteadfast, as it appears inStar Wars Legends continuity
TheSteadfast was first mentioned in the currentStar Warscanon in the2019 reference bookStar Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary byPablo Hidalgo, which accompanied thesequel trilogy filmStar Wars: Episode IXThe Rise of Skywalker.[12] TheSteadfast was originally created for theStar Wars Legends continuity, first appearing in thefourth issue of theStar Wars: Crimson Empirecomic-book series. The issue was written byMike Richardson andRandy Stradley, illustrated byPaul Gulacy, and released byDark Horse Comics[15] onMarch 18,1998.[16]
According toThe Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary, Enric Pryde was posted to theSteadfast in 6 BBY[17] and served aboard it until its destruction[12] in 5 ABY, meaning he must have spent eleven years serving on the Star Destroyer.[4] "The Steadfast Soldier,"Adam Christopher's short story published in the2023 anthologyFrom a Certain Point of View: Return of the Jedi,[5] which takes place in 4 ABY, further supports this date by stating Pryde had served aboard the ship for ten years.[3] However,[1] theApril 20,2021[18]Star Wars Encyclopedia booklet "The First Order" states that Pryde served theSteadfast for five years for Imperial officer training.[1] The2022 English translation rectified this error by stating he was posted to the ship within five years of receiving that training.[8]
