Chronological information

Timeline

Star Wars: Episode IJedi Power Battles was a console game published for use with the SonyPlayStation and SegaDreamcast inApril of2000. It inserted players into events in and duringStar Wars: Episode IThe Phantom Menace from the perspective of one of fiveEpisode IJedi, such asObi-Wan Kenobi,Qui-Gon Jinn,Mace Windu,Adi Gallia, andPlo Koon.

Additionally there are number of secret characters that can be unlocked after completing the game such asQueenAmidala,CaptainQuarsh Panaka, andDarth Maul. The Dreamcast version also included the JediKi-Adi-Mundi. Players can play asGungans anddroidekas in unlockable mini-games.Anakin Skywalker appears as a NPC on Tatooine, Level 5.

Gameplay[]

Playable Characters[]

Levels[]

There are fourteen levels, four of which are unlockable after completion of the main gameexcept for the Game Boy Advance version.

  • Trade Federation Battleship
  • Swamps ofNaboo
  • City ofTheed
  • Theed Royal Palace
  • Tatooine
  • Coruscant; this level is split into two sections
  • Ruins
  • Streets of Theed (On aSTAP)
  • Palace Cliffs
  • The Final Battle
  • Droidekas - Assault Theed Palace as a Droideka (unlocked after winning as Plo Koon)
  • Kaadu Race - Race aKaadu through the swamps of Naboo (unlocked after winning as Adi Gallia)
  • Gungan Roundup - Like conventionalfootball, with Jar Jar as the ball (unlocked after collecting hidden Gungan artifacts)
  • Survival Challenge - Defeat 100 enemies to gain the Ultimate Saber (unlocked after winning as Mace Windu)

Enemies[]

Platform differences[]

There are several differences between gameplay in the PlayStation and Dreamcast version of the game:

  • Ki-Adi Mundi is not in the PlayStation version though his name still appears in the credits.
  • There is no difference in difficulty if you choose 'Jedi Mode' on the PlayStation version.
  • There was a training arena in the Dreamcast version only, which doubled as a two-player versus arena.
  • Various computer panels can be destroyed in the PlayStation version only to gain extra points.
  • If one chooses to play a two-player game, he/she will be unable to unlock all but the Survival Challenge bonus levels.
  • Power ups can be used in the PlayStation version.

Continuity[]

Inconsistencies[]

  • If the player chooses to play as Queen Amidala during "Theed Palace", then she will not talk at all during the two cutscenes in the level.
  • Darth Maul has his own voice in "Theed Palace" but uses Mace Windu's voice in "Tatooine."
  • Qui-Gon for some reason is still alive after theBattle of Naboo.
  • Mace Windu uses a blue lightsaber just like the Episode I action figure ofSamuel L. Jackson, asGeorge Lucas had yet to agree that Windu uses the purple lightsaber seen inEpisode II. (Of course his blue lightsaber is likely canon as the lightsaber hilt he uses also changes from Episode I to Episode II).
  • In "Final Battle" Darth Maul respawns at the energy bridge in theTheed generator room when defeated. If the player runs away and jumps down to the catwalk below the three rings another Darth Maul will be waiting there resulting in the player fighting two Darth Mauls at the same time.

Legacy[]

"Taking down battle droids has never been more fun. And, yes, Mace Windu has his purple lightsaber in hand this time."
