Sap was amultihued fluid substance produced by certaintrees throughoutthe galaxy. It could be processed into various products, such asfood ingredients and other miscellaneous compound. When exposed to an open environment, some saps hardened and solidified.

In his youth,Holshef worked as asap collector and collectedgreel-wood sap, which was then processed intogreel-wood syrup. Another type of sap was produced byTenoo trees, which theLaterochefHap often used it as an ingredient for hissap beverages or be eaten as candy when hardened. Sap was a material in theNightsisters'Water of Life.

Description[]

Sap was a fluid substance produced from various types oftrees throughoutthe galaxy. It came in variouscolors, such as amber,[4] brown,[2] green,[1] purple,[5] and yellow.[6] It was often used as an ingredient to producefood[3] and beverages.[7] Some saps were able to be consumed raw when hardened, such as the ones collected fromTenoo trees, being compared to eating acandy.[4]

Around233 BBY,[8] during theheights of theJedi Order; acafe in the town ofKublop Springs,Hap's Sap Tap, served various beverages based on saps.[7] The proprietary of the establishment,Hap, often invented his own twist onsap beverages.[9] When the adventurerMaz Kanata visited Tenoo, she got stuck in a massive pool of sap while trying to retrieve her brokenjetpack. TheChadra-FanMarlaa Jinara then rescued Kanata as she started to sink deeper into the sap.[6]

In228 BBY,[10] aDuroscommander of thescience outpost onFelne 6 informed theJedi KnightsBell Zettifar andBurryaga Agaburry, who visited themoon toinvestigate reports of aDrengir sighting, to avoid physical contact with the poisonous saps produced by thestrik weeds.[1] During theClone Wars, in20 BBY;[11] aclan ofNightsisters led byMotherTalzin concocted thehealing potion,Water of Life,[12] which used saps as one of its ingredients.[13] They offered the liquid tobaptizeAsajj Ventress into a Nightsister.[12]

In14 BBY,[14] during thereign of theGalactic Empire; the planetKashyyyk was under Imperial occupation. They had built a saprefinery within its forests. ThePartisans leaderSaw Gerrera suspected that the refinery turned the saps into a powerful compound. On his way to help liberate theWookiees, theJediCal Kestis explored the facility, seeing pools of sap collected from thewroshyr tree being mixed and processed.[2]

ThehumanHolshef was asap collector who gathered saps of thegreel-woodtrees on the planetLothal. He used the saps to be turned intogreel-wood syrups.[3] However, by4 ABY,[15] he had become anartist and apoet, using his talent to express his disdain against the Empire.[3]

Behind the scenes[]

Sap—albeit unidentified—first appeared as an ingredient in "Nightsisters," thethird season's twelfth episode of the animated seriesStar Wars: The Clone Wars,[12] which aired onJanuary 7,2011.[16] The substance was later identified in the2015Disney–Lucasfilm Press junior novelServants of the Empire: The Secret Academy written byJason Fry.[3]
