Patriels had the power to declare afamily emergency, as well as authority over theplanetary defense forces of their family. Patriels could delegate some of thepatrol boats to their family's Councilors on the same planet for specific purposes.[2]
Upon the death of a familyPatriarch, one of the roles of family Patriels was to choose a successor Patriarch along with the familySpeaker. Typically, a Patriel was chosen as successor Patriarch.[2]
