Themission to rescue C-3PO,[11] also referred to as therescue of C-3PO,[12] was undertaken during theGalactic Civil War by therebelastromech droidR2-D2 whenhe took a loneT-65B X-wing starfighter to rescuehis friend, theprotocol droid,C-3PO from theGalactic Empire.[8]

Prelude[]

During thesiege on Tureen VII,C-3PO was captured bySCAR Squadron.[13] WhenLuke Skywalker,Leia Organa,Han Solo, andR2-D2 returned to therebel fleet, they decided not to attempt a rescue mission because SCAR Squadron was deemed too dangerous. However, R2-D2 disagreed and decided to conduct a rescue mission of his own.[10]

Once R2 arrived at theStar Destroyer C-3PO was being held at, He powered down hisX-wing and pretended to bedead. After he was picked up by the Star Destroyer, R2 took out an inspection team. Upon making his way to C-3PO, R2 caused confusion on board theship. Finally arriving at his friend's cell, R2 released him, the duo made their way to the X-wing and escaped.[10]

Aftermath[]

As the droids made their escape, however,Darth Vader was on their tail inhis ship. Luckily the pair were saved when Skywalker, along with theMillennium Falcon and theVolt Cobra, arrived, and the ships jumped tohyperspace.[10]
