Themeter, known as theImperial standard meter under theGalactic Empire, was an established unit of measurement for length used by thethe galaxy. One meter equaled 100centimeters,[2] or 1000millimeters, and was roughly equivalent to threefeet.[3] Despite being named after the Galactic Empire, the meter was also used during theGalactic Republic's reign as well.[4]
After scouring theplans for theDeath Star,GeneralJan Dodonna discovered that a small, exposed,thermal exhaust port led directly to the massive battle station'sreactor core. The small exhaust port was only two meters wide, meaning a smallstarfighter would be able to attack the vulnerable exhaust port.Luke Skywalker expressed that this mission was not impossible, explaining the he used to bulls-eyewomp rats in hisT-16 back home, which were not much bigger than two meters. Skywalker eventually succeeded in firing aproton torpedo into the exhaust port and destroying the battle station during theBattle of Yavin.[1]
