- "I don't know how they picked Okator VIII. It doesn't really matter, I suppose. It could have been a lot of places in the Divide. They could have picked Matabre, or Ilamna or Cortilium Major. But they didn't. They picked Okator."
- ―Baragwin sense lattice imprinted by a Republic soldier[2]
Matabre was an astronomical object[2] located in theEucer sector'sMatabre system. It was considered a part of theMid Rim,[1] although it was situated in the region known asthe Divide during theTionese War,[2] which was fought between theGalactic Republic and theHonorable Union of Desevro & Tion.[3] Matabre had been settled by Republiccolonists by thattime.[2]
ATionese military forcedestroyed Republic settlements on the Divide celestial bodyOkator VIII shortly before the war's end[2] around23,900 BBY.[4] At some point, a localfarm boy who had witnessed the attack and had later become aRepublic soldier at some point imprinted an audio-visual account of the attack in aBaragwin sense lattice, speculating that the Tionese could have just as well chosen as their target any of the other settled astronomical objects of the region, including Matabre.[2]
Behind the scenes[]
Matabre was originally meant to be mentioned in the2012 reference bookThe Essential Guide to Warfare byJason Fry andPaul R. Urquhart; however, the section that would have mentioned the astronomical object was cut before the book's release.[2]
The information regarding Matabre was later released in2014 as part ofStar Wars: The Essential Guide to Warfare Author's Cut, a series of articles published on theStarWars.comBlog by Fry andErich Schoeneweiss containing various cut content fromThe Essential Guide to Warfare.[2] The StarWars.comOnline Companion to the2009 reference bookThe Essential Atlas placed the Matabresystem, and therefore the celestial body itself, in grid square Q-7.[1]
