Thelungs were the essential organs of respiration^[2] inoxygen-breathing^[3] animals, includinghumans^[4] andGungans. The Gungan species had strong and sturdy lungs which allowed them to hold their breath for extended periods, enabling them able to travel freely to their underwater cities.^[2] When exhaling,humans expelledcarbon dioxide from their lungs.^[4]
