Chronological and political information

"These units had weird bug-like heads designed to look like the insectoid alien species they served. They also had a pretty nasty flaw in their programming that allowed their personality software to become corrupted."
R0-GR[6]

TheLOM-series protocol droid,[1] also known as aLOM-series droid[7] was a model ofprotocol droid manufactured byIndustrial Automaton. They were designed withinsectile features to emulate thespecies they were created to serve,[1] thesentientGand.[8][3] Due toCybot Galactica's hold over the protocoldroid market with their3PO-series, the LOM-series was a spectacular failure when Automaton attempted to introduce it, with evenArakyd Industries'RA-7 protocol droid selling more.[9]

The LOM-series had a flaw that allowed the personality software of a droid to be corrupted. Many LOM-series droids became enforcers inthe galaxy'sOuter Rim Territories.[3]4-LOM was a LOM-series protocol droid who overrode his programming and became abounty hunter,[1] thoughISBagentAndressa Divo came to suspect theDroid Gotra was behind the programming change in order to give theirdroid rights movement a symbol.[10] Another LOM-series droid,1-JAC, also worked as a bounty hunter,[11] as did aLOM-series unit in the employ ofcrime lordJabba Desilijic Tiure.[7] OneLOM unit in service to theGalactic Empire was based atWeapons Factory Alpha.[4]
