- "I'm here to investigate the Trade Federation presence. We believe that they're conducting an illegal operation in this system."
"Nice of you to finally notice. The Neimoidians have been looting the system for ten years!" - ―Adi Gallia andNym[4]
TheKarthakk system, also known asMaramere system, was astar system in theOuter Rim Territories, containing planets includingLok,Nod Kartha, and theMaramere homeworld of the sentientMere species. It centered on the starKarthakk.
Prior to theInvasion of Naboo, theTrade Federation occupied the system, using it as a testing ground for its newdroid starfighters. The local pirateNym, operating out of a base on Lok, fought back against the Federation, though in the process was forced to abandon his outpost to the enemy. Nym continued to battle the Federation for control of the Karthakk system for the next ten years, and, with the help ofAdi Gallia, eventually seized his base back from the droid forces. After this event, Adi Gallia was appointed as Nym's PersonalJedi Advisor of the Karthakk System to help stabilize the inhabitants of Maramere and Lok from the Trade Federation's occupation.
During theClone Wars, the Karthakk system became a battleground once more. AboardDrama Korr's space yacht above Maramere, JediObi-Wan Kenobi andAnakin Skywalker fought thebounty hunterDurge. After an arduous duel, Anakin trapped Durge inside anescape pod, and blasted him into the system's star, Karthakk.
In the early years of theGalactic Empire, theTantive IV was performing test launches of its escape pods in the Karthakk system when the pirate groupLok Revenants attacked, forcing the consular ship to abandon its pods as it fled. The droidsR2-D2 andC-3PO were later discovered to have been aboard one of those pods.
As of theGalactic Civil War, Nym had established a fortress on Lok, from which he kept watch over the Karthakk system and raided theCorellian Trade Spine.
