TheJundland Wastes, also simply known as theJundland, were a dry, hot, and rocky region that was located on the desertworld ofTatooine, between theNorthern Dune Sea and theWestern Dune Sea. In the native parlance, "Jundland" meant "No Man's Land."

This remote area primarily consisted of a number of canyons that wound their way around a number of large mesas and was situated near theDune Sea. The nomadicTusken Raiders and the Jundland Wastewomp rat inhabited the area. Several layers of rocks within the Wastes were tilted, indicating graben formations. They also contained magnetic deposits which obscuredsensors.
History[]
During theCold War between theGalactic Republic and theSith Empire, the Jundland Wastes were effectively split into two different territories. The region to the north of the canyon known asThe Wound, includingDreviad Outpost,Outpost Salara,Outpost Largona, andEspelar, was allied with the Republic, while the southern region, includingMos Anek,Outpost Rennar, andOutpost Varath, was under Imperial occupation.[3]

Two decades later,Luke Skywalker metObi-Wan Kenobi here in0 BBY after being attacked by Tusken Raiders.[7][1] After the fight, Tusken Raiders remained terrified by Obi-Wan Kenobi's apparition and were convinced that the the spirit of a great and ancientkrayt dragon was haunting the area.[8]

The real-world location for the Jundland Wastes isSidi Bouhlel inTunisia; the resulting film stock was edited together with pick-up shots fromDeath Valley in California.
