Jedi Council

AJedi Council was an organized body ofJedi, charged with overseeing one or more of theJedi Order's many affairs. TheJedi High Council was one such council.

Overview[]

Councils of the Jedi Order[]

During the rule of theGalactic Republic there were four councils in operation that oversaw theJedi Order's affairs.^[1] Each council was housed in one of the fourCouncil Towers that surrounded theTemple Spire.^[2]

Jedi High Council[]

The Jedi High Council, informally referred to as the Jedi Council, was the primary ruling body of the Order. Situatedatop theHigh Council Tower of theJedi Temple,^[2] the Council consisted of twelveJedi Masters, chaired by aGrand Master,^[3] who oversaw and governed the Order as a whole. Though the Order's allegiance was to theGalactic Senate, the Council was given the autonomy to governJedi affairs without interference.^[4]

Council of First Knowledge[]

Led by theCaretaker of First Knowledge, the role of the Council of First Knowledge was to procure advice on matters requiring ancient Jedi wisdom. Convening in theTower of First Knowledge,^[2] the Council oversaw the curriculum of the Temple and the Order's repository of knowledge—theJedi Archives.^[1]

Council of Reconciliation[]

The Council of Reconciliation convened in theTower of Reconciliation^[2] and was charged with attempting to settle interplanetary disputes. It worked with theGalactic Senate and theRepublic Diplomatic Corps to achieve this end.^[1]

Council of Reassignment[]

The Council of Reassignment organized work forJedi younglings not chosen to be elevated to the rank ofPadawan. Convening in theReassignment Council Tower,^[2] the Council also held jurisdiction over theJedi Service Corps.^[1]
