Hangars, also known asdocking bays orlanding pads, were areas for launching, landing, repairing, and refueling vehicles. They were located onplanetary surfaces,space stations,[2] andstarships large enough to carry smaller ships, such asshuttles,freighters,[3]blockade frigates,[4] andstarfighters. Some ships likeImperial Star Destroyers had atractor beam that could catch rebel ships and pull them into their hangar bays.[3]
Some larger ships were designed to carry many other vessels. For example theVenator-class Star Destroyer used by theGalactic Republic could contain numerous starships and shuttles within its hangars.[5]
TheExecutor-class Star DreadnoughtLiberty's Misrule, formerly known as theAnnihilator, used byEleodie Maracavanya'sSovereign Latitudes of Maracavanya pirate faction transformed one of the dreadnought's hangar bays into an encampment that was given several names, one of which was "Hangartown."[6] The modified parts of theGalactic Empiresail bargeGalleon had a hangar[7] for launching theskiffs tohunt ajakoosk on theicemoonCelsor 3.[8]
